Allergy Relief: The Dangers of a Wheat Allergy and How to Recognize One

One of the most common food allergies that many suffer from is that of a wheat allergy. It can be difficult to get through but symptoms can be avoided.

The foods that create wheat allergy symptoms are not completely total food allergies. These foods are ones that can be based out of a mixture of ingredients, but there will usually be some wheat involved.

This type of allergy does not necessarily create intolerance to wheat. That’s because food intolerance involves symptoms like migraine headaches, skin rashes and even worsened asthma or eczema conditions. This does not trigger the immune system to a state of overreact like a wheat allergy or any of the other food allergies would.

The allergy symptoms here are immunological. This involves a response to foods that is created by the immune system. The allergens will be interpreted by the immune system as foreign materials. This forces the production of immunoglobulin E, or IgE. This will bind to cells in the mouth and nose that can cause histamine releases. This causes inflammation and other dangerous symptoms.

Lip swelling is one of the most common side effects of this allergy. Other allergy symptoms include tongue swelling, asthma or hives. Fatal cases of anaphylaxis can even take place.

According to the Flour Advisory Bureau cutting out important grains from a diet can put people at risk. This includes wheat, but at the same time people will try to remove foods that they think they are allergic and end up getting a headache. This forces the belief that an allergy may be present, and that in return will cause an imbalance in a diet because of concerns about an allergy to wheat.

However, by knowing about the symptoms of this type of food allergy it can help to see if there is an allergy present. One of the best things to do involves keeping a food diary. When a reaction to a food occurs the reaction should be written down so that it will be remembered as to whether or not the allergy is commonly occurring. This is an important thing to do in that nutrients can be lost if an entire grain is completely removed from a diet because of fears of an allergy.

A wheat allergy can be dangerous in that various different dangerous allergy symptoms can be created. However, wheat does not have to be completely avoided as long as it is known as to what the symptoms are. It helps to keep a journal of foods that have been eaten so that it can be found as to whether or not a person has a wheat allergy.
